FYI, for those that OTHERWISE qualify to transfer their benefit to a
dependent (ie: retired AFTER 1 August 2009), but were not informed, or
as in my case were mis-informed, about the transfer rules, please read
this Army Times story. It appears that each of the services' Board of
Corrections is considering cases on an individual basis:

http://www.armytimes.com/careers/college-and-gi-bill/millitary-gi-bill-transfer-rights-091411w/
This is no help to the folks who retired prior to 1 August, 2009...but
might possibly help those of us who retired immediately after that date,
before the rules were concreted and disseminated to the education
centers.

I have a request approved date via milconnect of 20110919, and an obligation date of 20150912. Does this mean I have to stay in the Army until Sep of 2015 so my children can use the post 9/11 benefit?. I will have 20 years in on 5 Jan of 2013. The other question I have since I will not be staying in until 2015 is can my children use the benefit in the year 2013 or 2014 until I do get officially retire which will certainly be before the Sep 2015 obligation date.

OK so I get that you dont claim the Post-911 GI Bill as income. Check. Now my question is this. Do I claim it under the "education assistance" section? There is a slot there for Veternas Benefits.

I was approved for 60% towards tuition but I'm going full time (12 credits) all in classrooms. Am I still only eligible for 60% BAH? I am hoping that it's 100% BAH since it's considered full time?

I'm only getting 60% of the 911 benefits.. Does that mean I will only get 60% of BAH for my area? I'm getting different answers.. since I'm going full time (12 credits) wouldn't I be entitled to the FULL BAH?

Unfortunately your not alone. The VA is in need of more Veteran Service Representatives and Rating Specialists to handle the large number of Veterans, not to mention the numbers that will be exiting the military soon with the budget cutbacks (1000,00 Soldiers and Marines) and our exits from both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Obama hired more VA employees; however, with new legislation and the reasons I stated above they haven't been nearly enough even before the recently announced cuts to the services . This has only compounded an already large backlog of claims and an overwhelmed Veterans Benefit Administration.

What would be better b/c I am confused.. I have no college education and would like to start somewhere. I thought about earning an Associates, or a Bachelors.. I know and AS takes about 2 years, and a BS, 3-4... should i just get an AS first then towards the BS, or just do the BS?
