Blinded Veterans Association to Host 65th National Convention
While the government is doing their part with the Post 9/11 GI Bill and the Yellow Ribbon Program, it is nearly impossible for them to care for every specialized, individual need that may arise. This is where organizations like the Blinded Veterans Association (BVA) and others like it come in.
The Blinded Veterans Association’s (BVA) is set to host their 65th annual National Convention next month in our Nation’s Capital.
The convention will feature speakers, exhibits, workshops, presentations, silent auctions and much more.
“The BVA is an organization of blinded veterans helping blinded veterans. Through our service programs, regional groups, resources, and advocacy before the legislative and executive branches of government, we hope to make life better for blinded veterans,” the BVA website states. “We also hope to be there with encouragement and support. There is no charge for any BVA service and membership is not a prerequisite to obtain help. All legally blinded veterans are also eligible for BVA’s assistance whether they become blind during or after active duty military service.”
The BVA began at the end of World War II when 100 young men, mostly in their early 20s and recently blinded in the war, joined together while at Avon Old Farms Army Convalescent Hospital recovering from their injuries.
On March 28, 1945, the group gathered to form an organization to help their fellow blinded veterans. BVA was chartered by the U.S. Congress thirteen years later to speak and write on behalf of blinded veterans in national legislative affairs.
As the voice of blinded veterans across the nation, the BVA is excited to commemorate their 65th anniversary of helping disabled veterans through their dedicated service and relentless support.
