Department of Veteran Affairs Site Update

For active duty, reserve, and veteran college students (and military spouses and dependents) that are either trying to get their Fall 2009 semester Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits, or look into the upcoming Spring 2010 semester’s Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits, I have some good news: the U.S. Department of Veteran Affair’s website‘s updated. It looks like quite the overhaul!

This isn’t to say that those that military students that have not received their Post 9/11 GI Bill funds still are getting them in the mail tomorrow; there could still likely be countless of hiccups in the process. But the updates suggest a vast improvement in the electronic system that is currently in process for handling Post 9/11 GI Bill applications, so that in future semesters, there is not such a backlog from paperwork filled out by hand–which means less stress for both military students the VA.

The website’s conversion began on November 8th and was scheduled for completion yesterday (Veteran’s Day.) If you are having any errors with the site, contact the VA about it now–this will be the Post 9/11 GI Bill processing method of the future, so the more kinks that are removed before Spring 2010, the better! This update extends across over 500 websites and 80,000 webpages, so there’s bound to be some things that need smoothing out.

In other news, on Veteran’s Day Eve and Veteran’s Day, the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs completed 3,387 more Post 9/11 GI Bill applications and 4,454 other military financial aid applications. Continuous effort is being placed into assuring a better academic future for veterans and current service members alike. Are you still waiting? Consider applying for emergency funds.
