VA Contacting Veterans Concerning Benefits
Reuters released a report today concerning the development of the Post 9/11 GI Bill. Due to the extensive wait time that the Post 9/11 GI Bill has posed for veterans, reserve, and active duty that have anticipated benefits since August 1st, the VA is initiating a “call every applicant” process to make sure communication is in check until funds are dispersed. (Read the entire story here.)
This means that if you still have not received your funds, the VA should be contacting you–rather than the other way around–to address you questions, comments, and concerns.
Quoted from Reuters:
“The Post-9/11 GI Bill is one of our highest priorities,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki. “Instead of making people wait to hear from us, we’re reaching out to Veterans, so they can get the money they need to stay in school.”
From the news bulletins on the VA’s site, dispersions are filtering out at thousands per week. The problem is how many thousands upon thousands that are still in line.
The VA call will not require personal information, although families may be contacted if the veteran’s contact information is not readily available to request for phone numbers to reach the applicant. Applicants of emergency funds will not be excluded. Applicants of other financial aid programs, such as Chapter 30, should also expect to receive phone calls if they have not received their financial aid.
The emergency funds are still available for applicants that are waiting for their Post 9/11 GI Bill financial aid. Visit your regional office to apply.
