Post 9/11 GI Bill Payment Processing Started August 1, 2009
August 1, 2009 was the starting date for the Post 9/11 GI Bill‘s payment processing for the fall semester. Applicants for the Post 9/11 GI Bill for the fall semester should begin receiving funds. For applicants that registered for the Post 9/11 GI Bill awhile back and still have not received the new GI Bill’s financial aid, check your status with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.
Prospective college students may still apply for the Post 9/11 GI Bill for the upcoming spring 2009 semester. Prospective college students may choose to look into military-friendly college options so that they may also utilize the Yellow Ribbon Program benefits. Military-friendly colleges also have the added benefit of providing degree programs specifically tailored for active duty, reserve, and veterans.
The Post 9/11 GI Bill offers financial support for education and housing to military members with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged due to a service-related disability after 30 days. Only honorable discharges receive the benefits of the Post 9/11 GI Bill.
The amount of financial aid offered by the Post 9/11 GI Bill is determined by where the military personnel lives and what type of education they are pursuing. Consult the VA’s benefits comparison chart for a summary of the Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits.
Education covered by the Post 9/11 GI Bill include the following: graduate degrees; undergraduate degrees; and vocational/technical training. All training programs must be offered by a recognized institution of higher learning (IHL) and be approved for the GI Bill benefits. Tutorial assistance, licensing and certification test reimbursements may also be covered by the Post 9/11 GI Bill.
