The Reforms of the GI Bill in the Past Year

Exactly one year ago from today, veterans believed that the GI Bill fell short; the benefits that were offered to veterans for postsecondary education did not measure up to the risks that were taken. Today, the new Post 9/11 GI Bill has caused a wave of anxious excitement from veterans as they seek to apply for the financial aid necessary to compete with current college tuition fees.

There has been an equal wave of concern, however, that parallels this well-deserved excitement; will the Post 9/11 GI Bill be released by the promised release date of August 1st? In a blog post from Inside Higher Ed, government officials answer, “Yes.” In fact, towards the end of February and beginning of March, the predicted schedule estimated that the Post 9/11 GI Bill was ahead of schedule. Applications are anticipated to come out in May.
