VA Expectations for the Post 9/11 GI Bill

13 Apr, 2009 GI Bill

The Department of Defense has written an article addressing the expected impact of the Post 9/11 GI Bill when it goes into effect on August 1st. Donna Miles, who also writes extensively for the United States Press Service, compares the relative benefits for education as compared to the original 1944 GI Bill signed by President Theodore Roosevelt, and concludes that there is a stark contrast.

The program, administered and funded by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, is now expected to not only further educate the country by offering ample college stipends to veterans, but also is apparently increasing morale, as veterans begin to feel more appreciated for their achievements via greater rewards. The underlying theme of the article is focused on the potential to transfer the benefits gained through the GI Bill to other family members. This element has garnered a decisive level of interest, as evidenced by surveys which indicate that veterans have been vested in the idea of offering the Post 9/11 GI Bill to their families for decades, and now finally have the opportunity.
